Kantonian/Alolan Mewzy & more S-Luxray/K-Persian things

The evolution stage of a pokémon does not necessarily indicate its age. Some just don’t end up evolving for whatever reason. A treecko can become elderly without ever even evolving to be a grovyle, to reference an anime episode.

All base/first evolutionary stages and “baby” stage pokémon are hatched from eggs. “Baby” evos cannot breed, they’re simply biologically incapable of it.

Humans are the only complex organisms on Earth that do live birth.

All pokémon egg clutches are the base/baby stage from the same evo-line as the mother; the father influences them some, who must be a species from a compatible egg group as the mom…unless they’re a ditto. Ditto can breed with any other adult-aged pokémon species except baby evos (they cannot breed with humans, no matter what conspiracy theorists tell you). Unlike in the games, they can breed with legendary and mythical pokémon in this AU.

The “same evo-line as mom” rule is broken solely when the father’s evo-line is male-only. The clutch could then be all the base/baby evo of the father’s line, or a mixture of the mom and dad’s.

Kantonian meowth has a “baby stage evolution” (so does Alolan meowth, but not Galarian). This stage for either type of meowth is called mewzy in standard Unovan and Galarian. In Kantonian, the colloquial moniker for mewzy is konya. The Unovan/Galarian word “meowth” stemmed from Kantonian’s nyarth and its perjahn became “persian.” Not quite different sounding for the most part, are they?

Mewzy cannot be lain as an egg by persian, only by an adult meowth mother, due to the necessary circumstances for it to be born: the mom must have a huge collection of shiny round objects she is very pleased and content with, and sleep with it every night while pregnant with her clutch. (In classical canon, this would translate to giving her the biggest fanciest coin possible and having her hold it while in a Daycare.) Alolan meowth are slightly different, they need to feel like they discovered the items for their hoard themselves (canonically, this would be in-line with their impulsively arrogant personalities, so they can “claim the credit as their own”) so the breeders trick them by hiding the things in random places and pretend to be shocked when their meowth “chances” upon them. Luckily, Alolan meowth have a less intense drive for this than the original Kantonian kind, so it’s far easier for their breeders. Due to neither Kantonian nor Alolan persian possessing this collecting instinct, neither of them can make the desired offspring.

Alolan mewzy (purely Dark Type) don’t have the ability to invariably levitate small objects above their heads like Kantonian ones (Normal type) do. This suggests a bit of now-weak psychic ancestry in the evo-line and that the Alolan variant is even further removed from it than its progenitor already is. They both have small, flat, circular-shaped “forehead coins” that grow naturally, but the Alolan mewzy’s is silver instead of the Kantonian’s pale-golden hue.

Their undeveloped eyes are always fused shut, they’re incapable of opening them until they evolve into meowth. Mewzy is very helpless, needing constant supervision by their mom, other trusted pokémon, and-or a breeder. They cannot stand up on their own, but for short moments they can sit up on their hindquarters, before needing to lie back down on their bellies again. They only have one whisker protruding from each side of their face. It’s easy to mistake their short, tightly curled tails as being bobtailed, and some people do refer to them as such. Forcing these tails to uncurl with your fingers causes great discomfort in the mewzy and is advised against. This stage is very physically fragile and should be handled with great, gentle mindfulness.

Meowth mothers are protectively paranoid of their mewzy babies, rightfully so. Mewzy can hardly defend themselves, barely learning any moves that are on the damage-dealing side.

There’s the ancient Hisuian luxray evo-line who I think were a lot rougher than the Sinnohan ones we have now, and then there's the Paldean luxray line which are technically invasive/introduced, in my opinion. I think my kintype is just a normal wild luxray out in the modern-day Sinnohan forests, which get dreadfully cold in the wintertime. My persian kintype is a lifelong feral one, never caught by a trainer or otherwise tamed by humans, probably roams the outskirts of a Kantonian city/town (but which one...?). All of Kanto is of a temperate climate, never getting too hot or too chilly.

As a shinx/luxio/luxray my life first revolved around my birth-pack, the group of others of the same evo-line that I was born to. I think I might've been a male? Which means, according to my noemata of how their behavior was structured, as soon as I evolved into a luxio, I was chased off by the alpha male and joined a new smaller group of other male luxio. Therefore, prob'ly those guys became my new and only friends, but I dunno if I ever succeeded in creating my own pack with myself as the alpha luxray male with a bunch of (or at least one) unrelated female luxray. I might've had bad luck as can happen in nature and lived my whole life as a lone male luxray and died as one. There isn't an infinite amount of territory out there in the wilderness, after all. So, I don't believe my luxray-self had any friendships outside of his evo-line much if at all.

Both persian and luxray evo-lines are obligate carnivores; we cannot eat anything but meat or, hypothetically, all those weird canonical foods that are apparently designed for any pokémon to eat regardless of species...but I don't think those exist the same way in my noemata. I think even a poffin must be tailored specifically for each species' diet. Just like real cats, there is kibble designed especially for them, particularly the persian line which has more brands for them than the luxray line does. It’d be healthiest to simply feed them both raw meat with proper vitamins/minerals mixed in, and clean water. I think my meowth/persian-self (most likely female?) may have had other pokémon friends outside of my evo-line? Acquaintances, at least? Perhaps a human or two who was friendly but not an owner?

Both of my ‘types had to catch/kill their own food, for the most part. My meowth/persian-self could at times get away with scavenging meaty scraps leftover from human foods. My luxray-self was capable of stealing kills from other predators, but it was rarer than getting it ourselves.

------

I don’t recall ever being a mewzy as my persian-self, in fact, I’m pretty sure I’d never even seen one up-close. I think I just hatched as a young meowth, like most feral/wild members of my evo-line. It is much harder for a mom-meowth to gather up a sufficient hoard of shiny and-or round objects she adores (which is necessary for producing mewzy eggs) when she doesn’t have a caring human to help her do so. Some females are exceedingly crafty about it, turning to thievery, or they’re simply stunningly fortunate.

I feel like I must’ve had at least two or three clutchmates who I grew up with, whether we all had the same biofather is beyond me. Much like IRL cats, a female meowth (or persian) can mate with multiple males during her “heat,” which for a mature specimen of either species, happens every eight-to-ten weeks. That’s the biggest reason why meowth are so dang common wherever they are, they breed very frequently. Populations boom when uncontrolled, and their natural high level of adaptability has a hand in this as well. Look at Alolan and Galarian meowth, for examples of extreme cases of this evo-line adapting to better befit a new environment and situation.

Anyway, about those clutchmates and I: I think we all went our separate ways once growing old enough, striking out on our lonesome. I was a bit hesitant to do it, but our meowth mother was insistent we get on our way, out from underfoot. I remember asking her if she’d be lonely without us. She just huffed and said something about why? When she’d just have more eggs in the future? Like we didn’t matter, like we were just numbers to her. That callousness rather stung me, but it was how things were, the way her life was and how she dealt with it. (I do believe all pokémon can converse amongst themselves, with only some humans being born with the inexplicable, probably Psychic-like ability to understand them. Canonically, there are humans with psychokinetic powers.)

Since I have the distinct sense that I must’ve been a female of my evo-line, and one not who was responsibly overseen by a human trainer nor non-trainer owner, that means I must’ve lain my own clutches of eggs which I’d then raised post-hatching. Like animals IRL, it’s just plainly instinctual for pokémon to breed. I don’t know for sure if humans in that world had the practice of spaying and neutering ‘mon like they do for pets in our world; I’ll figure it out some other time, but the gist is that I most certainly had multiple clutches throughout my life, in both evolutionary stages. I also don’t know if this holds true for other species, but for persian and meowth, they tended to only temporarily pair up with the opposite sex if they were in the same evo-stage as themselves. A persian wouldn’t mate with a meowth, and vice-versa.

I like to hope I wasn’t ever as jerkish to my kids as my biomom was about hers.

The meowth/persian that I was/am didn’t much resemble the anime/games’ standard for the Kantonian evo-stages. In my AU’s canon, fur coloration, eye color, fur length (could even be hairless like a sphynx), and fur marking combinations were extremely variable like IRL domestic cats, compared to the anime/games’ norm for my evo-line’s appearance. In my canon, the “standard” for the line falls under the colorpoint umbrella. Chocolate-pointed with seal ears, in fact; off-white creamy-ish fur, but no darker facemask or forepaw-mittens, but the ears, hindlegs and tail do have color to ‘em, for meowth. Meanwhile, the look of the persian they evolve into would be considered a very plain, off-white “unmarked except for the ears” seal point. Both are short-haired. Neither of them displays any temperature-sensitive gradient of darkening across the coat upon cooler areas of the body besides what was described, which is an odd/uncommon mutation possible in this line that IRL kitties do not have.

The forehead coins/stones don’t vary too much in color at all, doing so would indicate a change in Typing (Alolan persian’s stone is blue instead of red; Alolan meowth has a noticeably darker-gold coin than the Kantonian’s). There wasn’t even a “norm” for my line’s physical appearance whatsoever in my source, unless you count in wild meowth/persian. Wild ones could easily interbreed with feral/stray domesticated phenotypes if they chose, since there was literally no difference between them all taxonomically, but averagely they resembled the different populations of African/European wildcats from the genus Felis of our current world, if they had no selectively-bred-by-humans blood in them. I know I keep talking like ferals and wilds were two different categories but considering the way the pokémon world works (going out into the wilderness and capturing an unsocialized ‘mon straight out of its habitat it’s always known)…it truly depended on who you asked.

Galarian/Alolan meowth and persian are the subspecies (“variants”) for the Kantonian ones. Perrserker is a wholly different but related species, not a sub- one.

I feel like I might’ve been a shorthaired black/ginger mackerel tabby tortoiseshell? With a small amount of white spotting? And yellowish eyes?

That’s the vibe I’m getting whenever I think of it.

Sometimes, trainers would wander through with their teams to test their might, and uh, it didn't always end well for their teams. It often resulted in grievous, probably fatal, injury. In retrospect, it's irresponsible to just throw your pokémon teammates at random wild animals that will react with intent to kill at any threat...I didn't care about that back then, though. I just wanted the nuisances to be gone. I didn’t always win, either. There were instances that the trainers had higher-level teammates than me all on my lonesome. I had better chances with the other pack-less male luxray in my band backing me up. Fun times, sarcasm.

We had no symbiotic relationships with any other species that I recall; we didn’t think of other evo-lines very much outside of ourselves. Luxray packs and all-male bands were very territorial, to boot. If something encroached on our home turf that in our eyes didn’t belong there, for example another predatory pokémon, especially larger ones, we didn’t like it one bit, particularly us males (luxio and luxray in an all-male band were always seeking to improve themselves in battle to further impress females in the future, and yes, this could lead to death when challenging something we shouldn't have bothered with).

For my meowth and then persian self, we were far more lenient, living loosely in spread-out colonies (or another word for them: “clowders”) across human settlements such as smaller or bigger towns, rural villages, or even entire urban, industrialized cities. For me, I’m unsure where I lived at this moment as I’m writing this. On the outskirts of a bigger town, maybe? Only grown males got uppity over other guys messing with “their” local ladies which they most likely ousted another male to obtain breeding rights with. They’d kill whatever meowth hatchlings they thought weren’t theirs by blood, if they could manage to get past the mamas long enough to do it (we were ever vigilant). Meanwhile, females like me were able to coexist with one another peacefully. Drama was sparse but still occurred now and then, if only because cats are gonna be moody on a weird day, just like in this physical life. It rarely ever led to true bloodshed for us gals. Our life goals were to survive till old age and to procreate.

The more I think about it, the more I think my luxray self just didn’t get any opportunities to form my own pack. Sucks to be me. Dunno how I died, yet. Possibly in a confrontation, the aftermath of one (infected injury and-or blood loss), or severe illness. Even a mere freak accident could be probable. It’s unfortunately a common fate of many wild male luxray: we’re unlucky enough to not get the chance to spread our genes to the next generation. This doubly sucks, because it’s in our DNA to live in a pack. The all-male bands were treated as temporary living situations by us members of it, optimistically. We tried not to get all doomsayer about failing. Anyone who got depressed about things was snapped at (at worst) to lighten up by the harsher ones of us, or at best, they were given pep-talks. Being negative was a no-go for our precarious lifestyle. I think I was a quieter fellow, not prone to vocalizing much until I saw a need to. Not the cleverest individual, which was most likely what led to my demise, but also not the dumbest; not impulsive or impatient, didn’t boast, kind of a wallflower stuck in his own head. I wonder if anyone in my band missed me after I was gone.

To change the subject, Kantonian persian evo-liners were not as deeply social as the luxray line, but we’re still close to those we truly bond with—regardless of the persistent human myths insisting we’re selfish and mean. We need more alone time than shinx, luxio, and luxray do. Call us sociable introverts on average, because we burn out after some long hours of interaction with our people, other species we get along with, or even among conspecifics. There are some outliers, like meowth or persian who are a great deal pricklier and loner-y than the norm, or some that seem needy for constant attention on the opposite end of the spectrum. This “alone time” is usually spent asleep, dozing half-awake, or grooming ourselves. We do indeed love and feel affection like any other pokémon. Depending on circumstances and on the individual, we may even stick our necks out to defend those we care for, but it is a fact that some meowth and persian would rather run from a conflict happening near them rather than step in for a loved one’s sake. It varies. The protectiveness is observed among human-owned Kantonian meowth and persian more often than in feral or wild ones (outside of a feral/wild mom and her clutch; she will always protect them, invariably, to the best of her ability. It is instinct, it is nature’s law).

I believe my luxray self displayed numerous scarring across my body, while my persian self…at least had a nicked ear, if nothing else? Life’s rough when you’re wild or feral. I think as my persian self I managed to reach a middle-age for my kind, not quite elderly but getting up there, by the time I perished. I think I got sick from something, somehow? Stopped grooming myself so much, so I appeared dirtier than I should’ve, lost weight, becoming thinner than I already might’ve been. I don’t think I had a clutch to care for while this was happening—thank Arceus. I have a feeling I would’ve hated myself to die while they were still too young to be left alone.
